I want something that will run longer than my cleaning supplies will last. I have a romanian SAR1, springfield M14, colt 6920 etc but I want something set up for living in the woods. I want to buy an AK for a SHTF/survival rifle. As for choosing an Arsenal gun over a M1A remember Arsenal's quality control problems of late.

If a 46 year old guy with back problems can carry one all day in the mountains you can too. If the weight is too much for you try working out a little more :wink. As for the weight I've carried mine all day hunting in the mountains here in Montana with no problems. Remington Core-lok work great as a hunting round through them. Ammo is much easier to find and plain old 150 gr. The M1A has better range and accuracy than any ak and in my experiance with my personnel rifle just as reliable. Mine has one of the last USGI chrome lined barrels Springfield used and I replaced the extracter with a GI one as Springfield was having problems with them about the time my rifle was made. The reciever is cast but so what? A well made casting properly heat treated will perform just fine. My M1A has about 3000 rounds through it with no problems what so ever. Well I'm going to disagree with several people here and say that the M1A is the one to go to.
